The price of a complete installation varies depending on your water source, how many head of livestock you need to water, and how much of the installation you can complete on your own. Below is a generalized breakdown of the cost to install one Frostfree Nosepump livestock watering system. Invest in your animal’s health and your own sanity with Drinking Post Waterer! Our non-electric livestock waterers are perfect for your horses, cattle, goats, sheep, llama, alpaca and more! Shop Our Online Store. Find a Local Dealer. The typical installation is a road culvert at least 24-in. Diameter, set in the ground at least 20 ft. The bigger the culvert, the more ground heat rises to keep the water pipe in the center warm, explains Anderson. The culvert has 2 ft. Sticking above ground. The waterer is a small, enclosed basin on top of the vertical culvert.
The Drinking Post Waterer receives water from below your local frost line with every use, so it can literally stand unused for years at a time and instantly produce fresh, clean, 50°F during any season of the year! These waterers will significantly mitigate the threat of West Nile Virus and algae build-up by eliminating the standing water associated with heated waterer solutions, buckets, and troughs. For colder climate regions, the PVC paddle will not freeze like an aluminum paddle.
Highlights:
Frost Free Horse Waterer
- Easy to install (*only 3 moving parts - no cement pad, can fit into tight spaces, less digging, & no used tires required for cold climate installation)
- Low-maintenance (*interior components can be easily removed for maintenance without digging)
- Eliminate heated water costs during winter months (*no electricity required)
- There are no minimum usage requirements
- Mitigate the threat of West Nile Virus and algae build-up (*no standing water)
- Automatic (*providing fresher, cleaner water than any heated waterer, insulated waterer, or bucket/trough)
- 50°F during any season of the year (*no freezing!)
Optimum Water Pressure Requirement: 25-65 PSI (*anything over 65 PSI will need a pressure reducer and anything under 25 PSI will not function properly)
Installation Tip: It's not a good idea to have the concrete right up next to the Drinking Post. This could lead to PVC cracking as it changes with the temperature. Ideally, there would be about a 1' gap between the waterer and the concrete.

We Installed THIS FROST FREE HYDRANT
If you own livestock then you probably need to have running water near your barn. Unfortunately most setups need to be shut down for the winter. BUT NOT A YARD HYDRANT!
How a yard hydrant works
Yard Hydrants are frost free, as the water in them above the ground drains out below the frost line. When the lever is lifted water flows up the pipe and out of the hydrant. When the lever is lowered, water drains back down the pipe and into the ground, underneath the frost line.
How Do You Install a Yard Hydrant?
To install a yard hydrant you need to trench a waterline from your well to the location of the hydrant. Once you have trenched to the location you want the hydrant in you will need to dig a hole for the yard hydrant.

How deep do you bury a yard hydrant?
A hydrant should be buried below the frost line, which may be as deep as 4 feet or more in some places. Once the yard hydrant is attached to the well line, backfill it and turn on the water.
